Born 11th January 1864 in North Carolina, USA, he tried careers in politics and law before becoming a Baptist Minister. In the modern era his works are often out of favour as while he wrote twenty-eight books, his book trilogy beginning with the "The Leopard's Spots" inspired the notorious film "Birth of a Nation" which was credited with the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan. He died on 3rd April 1946 in North Carolina.
